What is Ear Candling?

Ear Candling or Thermal Auricular Therapy is when a hollow ‘candle’ or tube is placed into the ear and lit. Herbs and oils are often placed into the tube and when they are lit they look like candles which is where the name comes from. The treatment is said to have existed from ancient times and is practised in many different countries. By creating an air flow, the candle is believed to draw out impurities of the ear such as wax.

It is suitable for most adults but a consultation is recommended first as it may not be suitable for everyone/certain conditions. It can also be given to older children as long as they can lie still long enough!

The treatment usually involves the candle being placed in the ear with a protective cloth between it and the ear. Patients will be laid on their side for this procedure, then swap sides to treat the opposite ear. It is believed to aid sinus problems, earwax and snoring.

We will shall shortly be introducing a new Therapist to the centre who practices in this area who is a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists: www.fht.org.uk
